Learn about the various types of portable fire fighting equipment commonly found in work environments with a course that covers the correct and safe handling and use of fire extinguishers, fire hose reels and fire blankets.

Operate Elevating Work Platform (Under 11m) Training Dates | January

RIIHAN301E Operate Elevating Work Platform (under 11m) public course dates for January 2020 are now available from Height Safety Engineers.

This course teaches participants how to safely operate an elevating work platform (EWP) under 11m. An elevating work platform may be used to conduct work activities at height or to reach raised areas such as roofs.

Participants will learn how to plan work to be undertaken, conducting routine maintenance checks before commencing work, how to set up the EWP in order to complete the work, safe operation of the EWP and correct shutdown and stowing procedures.

At Height Safety Engineers, we use a boom-type EWP for this course, however a scissor-lift style EWP may be able to be provided on request.

For clarification, by “boom-type EWP” we mean a telescoping device, hinged device or articulated device, or any combination of these, used to support a platform on which personnel, equipment and materials may be elevated.

Please note although this course contains material related to the National Standard for High Risk Work, successful completion will not result in a participant being eligible to receive a high risk work licence.

Confined Space Training Dates | January

Confined Space Training Dates | January

Confined Space Training public course dates for January 2020 are now available from Height Safety Engineers.

This is an introductory course for those required to work in and around confined spaces.

Confined Space Training will introduce participants to the hazards common to working in confined spaces, legislation related to high risk work. The course will also cover the duties of a standby person, gas testing atmospheres and working with permits to enter.

Use of associated personal protective equipment (PPE) as well as identification of its limitations will also be covered.

Participants will also gain experience in using various pieces of confined space entry equipment including tripods, davits, personal winches, RPDs, spreader bars, retrieval SRLs and full body harnesses. Administrative tasks such as performing risk assessments and installation of control measures also form part of the course.

First Aid and CPR Training Dates | January

First Aid and CPR Training public course dates for January 2020 are now available from Height Safety Engineers.

This course provides participants with the skills and knowledge to respond to an incident in the workplace or at home requiring first aid.

First Aid and CPR training teaches participants to respond to a variety of common injury types such as burns, bleeding, cuts, asthma, seizures, anaphylaxis, choking, spider bites, snake bites, soft tissue injuries and eye injuries.

Course material will also cover the responsibilities of a first aid officer, managing shock, minimising hazards to themselves and others as well as performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Successful completion of the course will enable the participant to serve as a first aid officer in their workplace or other situation.

Our first aid and CPR training course has been developed with a focus on highly practical scenarios drawn from real life experience and presents situations participants are likely to come across.

RIIWHS204D Work Safely at Heights public course dates for January 2020 are now available from Height Safety Engineers.

RIIWHS204D Work Safely at Heights is an introductory course for those working in areas where there is a risk of sustaining injury or death through a fall from height.

The course teaches participants the basics of relevant legislation and standards covering height safety, performing a risk assessment and installation of control measures. It also covers identification of suspension trauma after a fall, how to correctly fit and use a fall arrest harness as well as introducing a range of different fall arrest systems.

Participants also gain knowledge around safely using tools while working at height, how to select the correct personal protective equipment (PPE) to use plus how to inspect their PPE before and after work to ensure it is kept in best operational condition and functioning correctly.

Working Safely with Asbestos Containing Materials Training Dates | January

10559NAT Course in Working Safely with Asbestos Containing Materials public course dates for January 2020 are now available from Height Safety Engineers.

Working Safely with Asbestos Containing Materials extends the skills and knowledge obtained in 10675NAT Course in Asbestos Awareness.

In this course, participants will learn how to prepare a work-site, correct usage of personal protective equipment (PPE), techniques for the safe drilling and cutting of asbestos containing material as well as decontamination processes to undertake at the completion of work.

As with the Asbestos Awareness course, 10559NAT Course in Working Safely with Asbestos Containing Materials is a required competency for anyone working in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) whose employer, or other person conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU), reasonably believes will come into contact with asbestos or asbestos containing material.

There are a number of occupations where holding a statement of attainment in this course may be required, including but not limited to, air-conditioning and mechanical services plumber, air-conditioning and refrigeration technician, data and telecommunications cabler, general and special class electricians, gas fitter, plumber, telecommunications technician, electrical or telecommunications trades assistant or plumber’s assistant.

Please note it is a pre-requisite of this course that a participant already hold a statement of attainment in 10675NAT Course in Asbestos Awareness.

Public training sessions in 10675NAT Course in Asbestos Awareness during January 2020 are now open for booking from Height Safety Engineers (RTO 91227) in Sydney.

If you work in areas that may be contaminated with asbestos or have asbestos containing materials in them, it is vital you know how to identify and report that contamination or those materials.

The course also teaches about the hazards associated with inhalation of asbestos fibres, and participants will also learn about precautions available to be taken upon the discovery of asbestos or asbestos containing material.

Best practice reporting procedures and understanding of duties of care also form part of the material taught in this nationally-recognised training course.

For those in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) where their employer or other person conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU) reasonably believes a risk of contact with asbestos or asbestos containing material, this course is a required competency to hold.

Occupations where this may be the case include, but are not limited to, cleaners, plumbers, labourers, landscapers, engineers, fencers, glaziers, locksmiths, construction workers, air-conditioning technicians and electricians.
